Make Yourself

How I Went From A Job I Hated

How I Went From A Job I Hated
In 1999 I got my dream job as a software programmer. I was self taught during a carer break where I discovered my previous dream degree related job was not all I imagined it to be. I was working offshore and making the connections between being in prison and living on an oil rig. Yes for sure it was very well paid but and it is a big but" I WAS REALLY NOT HAPPY".

When I spoke to my family and closest friends about my emotional state, how I was hating working offshore they all pointed out their opinion on the money front. With what I was earning I could 'retire' in five years and buy lots of property and there was genuine job security. This was all true but I felt soulless and I was not feeling right with my lot.

All but one, they all told me to stick it out. One suggested I come home and start a restaurant with them. I took the cowards way out, the only way I could and quit my offshore job. But not to start a restaurant, that one luckily, in hind site, fell through.

I did have enough squirrelled away to take a year out and teach myself programming. See, I wanted to be a computer game programmer. I loved the idea of getting paid well to do something I loved to do "and" I was in love with computer games. So how to make that happen? For nearly a year every day I used my savings to live and study from text books the arts and science of programming. Now this is what I will call a total geek, me! That kind of geekeyness has never left and it is such as asset!

Well I did get a job in programming. It wasn't game programming but it was programing and within a few years I had risen towards the top of a well principled Newcastle based software company that was in the business of medical imaging and oil and gas imaging. I loved that job and I really did - It wasn't a job, it was a calling. Well kind of. That was until it went totally corporate and was bought out, as many highly successful oil related ventures do. But what was really the issue, yet again, was my emotional state. This time though it was going to be different. Why was this different this time you might ask?

In 2002 I had begun a journey into the world of Neurolinguistic Programming or NLP. At first just a couple of introductory courses which really sparked my interest in how I could alter and manage my own emotional state and that really equated to taking much more charge of my life and coming out of a poor me or as some call it a victim mentality.

I had done training with a well know local NLP Practitioner training provider in Newcastle and since completing the NLP Practitioner level course I was very different in how and what I could do to better manage my thoughts, my emotions and how I behaved in the world. I was still unsatisfied with my job as a programmer and I realised I was the source "and" solution of my problems.

To say the NLP bug bit me and bit deep was ( and still is ) an understatement. I was reading, writing and watching everything I could about NLP. I was practising NLP for hours each and every day and this continued over the next year or so. My family and friends thought I had joined a cult because on one New Years day I was driving to Northallerton to attend an NLP Practice group when my friends were going to the pub to make an out out day of it.

What I was doing was everything I could to positively affect my situation and this is clear to see because in 2005 I completed my first NLP Trainer Trainer "before" I had completed my NLP Master Practitioner while I completed my first Hypnotherapy training. When I say NLP became my life I am quite sure about that. I was the first person I know of to complete a NLP Trainer Trainer "BEFORE" the NLP Master Practitioner.

What I love about NLP ( and there are other ways too ) is that with practice just about anyone can live a more happy and more fulfilled life. It teaches how to run your own brain and how to use language in ways that are extremely liberating. I was so sure about this and the positive effects with me that I wanted to share NLP with whoever wanted to live a more fulfilling and happier life. The equation is simple to me. If more people are happy, kinder and more understanding of others then the world is a much better place.

In 2005 I resigned and presently left the Newcastle Technopole building by Manors Metro for the last time. I remember walking away, not looking back, looking forward, thinking I will never set foot in that building or work for that company again. The sense of freedom and conviction comes back now as I right this and it feels very very good.

That was a very beautiful and powerful experience for me because I had decided to start my own NLP Training business and go full time working with clients using hypnotherapy. It was also a little scary too because to fund this venture I had chosen to sell my house as well as resign. I was walking my own path and this for those who know is liberating and freeing - it is also completely fresh and new because no one in this way has done this before. As individual as your own finger prints.

Making my NLP Training and Hypnotherapy Training business fully functional and successful has not been some walk in the park. It has been at times extremely hard and effortful work yet always rewarding. In the early years there were a couple of times where I literally had no money and had to borrow from friends and family to eat.

What is absolutely wonderful now and I occasionally need to pinch myself is that I have created an amazing lifestyle for myself where I get to help all manner of people to empower and take more charge of their life. Take more charge of their emotions and more fully do more of what they want or don't want to do. This is my calling or purpose in life "and" I get paid and make a good living doing this valuable work.

"IF YOU ARE READING THIS FAR THEN" it is fair to assume that you have some interest in NLP. And you should know there are no guarantees that doing an NLP Practitioner training will give you the freedom and lifestyle you want.

Those kind of massive personal transformations require hard work, practise and time. What you will get through an NLP training are the processes that can and most likely will help you make the right kind of changes that support your personal evolution and help you to have a much more enjoyable life connecting more deeply with the right people and nurturing positive relationships.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE KINDS OF NLP TRAININGS AVAILABLE

ONLINE CERTIFICATION

When there are no other alternatives this can be the only solution. I think about NLP Practitioner 'online certification' as the last resort. The whole and necessary human interaction is missing and it is essential in developing the required feedback loop you only get with real people on a live training.

BOOKS

Did you know that around 80% of self help book and that includes the copious NLP self help books are bough and never read? Of those who do a little reading many don't do the all important exercises as you will discover NLP application is not a theoretical subject.

And for sure even with live trainings you really won't be able to master all of your emotions and you certainly won't be able to cure anyones phobia in minutes. That is the proverbal rubbish that you shouldn't believe because its right up there with the 'Earn a 7 figure sum coaching' or 'Write a best seller in a week' nonsense that gets bandied around.

Books can help as a companion to actual live training. Assuming you know how to drive or swim how do you feel about a 'learn to swim book' ?
