Red can conjure up some pretty powerful emotions, such as passion and anger, so when it comes to rocking it we say less is always more. Going on a first date? Instead of slipping into a little red dress, tone down the sexuality a bit with a pair of red-hot high heels or a fiery clutch that will still stand out, just in a more subtle way. Researchers at the University of Rochester found that the color red not only makes a man more attracted to you, but it also encourages him to open up his wallet and spend more dough. If you work for tips, it's probably in your best interest to sport red. A 2012 study published in the "Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research" discovered that men gave significantly higher tips to waitresses in red. The hot hue is a huge attention-grabber. Plus, thanks to its association with strength and power, it can make people think you're a lot more confident than you really are.

Because the color red can stir up your appetite, it's best to keep it out of the kitchen if you're watching your waistline. Pops of red, on the other hand, (like throw pillows) work wonderfully in the living room, as the warm color tends to bring people together and encourage conversation. You can also add some red to your formal dining room (perhaps in the form of candles) to liven up the atmosphere and get people talking at a dinner party. Whatever you do, though, please don't use red in your home office. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Rochester found that in a test environment, people tend to associate it with failure and mistakes, and thus, perform worse. Due to its fiery nature, true red should also be used minimally in your bedroom. It increases your blood pressure and heart rate, not to mention makes you want to get up and move, which isn't ideal when you're trying to snooze.

Men may claim to love the natural look, but of course, research proves otherwise. In a University of Manchester study, men stared at photos of women rocking red lipstick for 7.3 seconds as opposed to 2.2 seconds for the women who were lipstick-free. Seeing how red is the color of romance, passion and sexuality, these findings don't really come as much of a surprise at all. If lipstick isn't exactly your thing, though, it's all good. You can still ooze sex appeal and bring all the boys to the yard with a classic red manicure. Feeling daring? Paint the town red with a fiery smoky eye that's fierce, fabulous and fun.
